today's thoughts
This morning I left the house at my usual time--as a matter of fact, I left a little early and thought I would be early. I was a half hour late. I turned out onto 235 and just as I got into the middle lane, I heard on the radio that gate 1 of the base was closed due to an accident that occurred Monday night. They said it will remain closed until they finish cleaning up. I instantly thought it had to be a terrible accident if the gate was going to be closed all day while they cleaned up from the accident.
So, I rode along, slowly, with everyone else. I decided that instead of trying to move into the left lane to get into gate 2, I would just stay where I was until I got past gate 2 then I would be able to get down to gate 3 quickly. I was right. Once I got past gate 2, the traffic was gone and I was able to move along to gate 3 at the normal speed.
I finally got into work about 8:10.
Then we found out that a construction worker was killed just before 10 last night. They have been doing construction at gate 1 in the evening hours.
Something like that sure puts things into perspective. A man was killed in a terrible accident. His family lost a loved one. A little traffic can't compare to the loss his family is going to feel. Sure makes you stop and think of what is really most important in life.

thoughts for today
Getting ready to feed the cats, then will make spaghetti for us. I'm trying not to feel too depressed--even though it is my usual depression day--Sunday--a.k.a. "the day before back to work."
It is only going to be a 4 day week for me eventhough I should be working Friday. I am taking a week off to go on vacation, and so, the thought of a vacation does lift my spirits some. As soon as I'm done feeding the cats, I can work on some packing. We want to pack all week so we don't have to kill ourselves Thursday when we get home. If I had a lot of leave, I'd take Thursday off.
Just came back from doing a little gardening and picked one bean and about 3 pea pods. There is a cucumber almost ready to pick and a few jalapeno peppers that are going to be ready soon. The tomatoes are starting to appear--all in all looking good.
Bob bought some annuals for me to plant in a couple of pots around the deck and patio. I had planted seeds there, but they weren't doing too well, so I planted something else. I love looking out and seeing the bright colors. It makes me happy.

thoughts for today
Just sitting here working on my blog and thinking about how fortunate I am and counting my blessings. I complain about stuff and then I always have to remember that there is always someone worse off than I am. I have a lot to be grateful for. Here are just a few things:
Bob, Sarah, Shawn, Keith and Megan. I'm grateful for my family, Bob's family, Keith's family and Megan's.
We have a beautiful home, with beautiful things. Our surroundings are gorgeous, too. I know I complain about Southern Maryland because of the lack of good shopping, good medical and the slim choices for jobs. But, they really do have a lot to offer, too.
Although I do love to visit big cities and walk around in them--I love to hear city noises--as Neil Diamond says, "beautiful noise." I love the shopping and restaurants, theaters, the people--a city can be intoxicating. But, I think I am always grateful to have a home with a country setting to come back to. It's not so far out in the country and so rural that you don't get cable, Internet or cell phone service -- and I'm grateful for that because I like my modern conveniences.
With an acre of land of our own--and all the neighbors have about an acre--none of us are right on top of each other. Yet, we have neighbors and you get that suburb feel. At the same time, we are surrounded by trees and have the pleasure of sitting in our backyard watching and listening to the birds and squirrels, listening to the crickets on a warm summer evening and can be lulled to sleep on the swing while listening to the hypnotic sounds of the fountain in the pond. I love to be in my own yard and feel as though I am in a park.
The highway is right there, we can walk to it, and we can hear the cars. But, those sounds don't drown out the beautiful sounds of the birds.
We have Wal-Mart across the street and 2 other shopping centers 5 and 10 minutes away--so for all of our immediate needs, we are covered.
Every day, as I leave for work when I'd rather be at home, I thank God for the birds, squirrels and all his creatures and thank him for the opportunity to live here to enjoy and notice the animals, trees, flowers--nature.
I am grateful for our friends and new family we gained when Sarah married Keith.
I complain--but am grateful for the job I am fortunate enough to have.
I am grateful for all the wonderful opportunities I have had to travel--both near and far from home--and all the continued opportunities I will have to travel.
I am grateful for our new friends, Andrew and Annie and all the new friends I/we will make.
I am grateful to have a garden in which to grow fresh veggies and herbs. And, grateful for neighbors who let us plant a garden on their land--and I'm glad to be able to share the fruits of our labors with them.
I am grateful to have modern conveniences like dishwashers, washers and dryers, cars, computers and so many other things that we take for granted and that make our lives so much nicer. We fortet about all the people who go without the necessities, let alone have all the modern conveniences.
I know there are lots of things I am grateful for that I'm just not thinking of right now.
I am truly blessed and to that, I say THANK YOU!

TODAY
Well, here it is, the 26th of February already. I am so sick and tired of winter. The last few days have been kind of mild during the day, but it sure drops at night. Brrr! I just have such a low tolerance for the cold anymore. I really do prefer the warm weather.
As I write this, there is an episode of Andy Griffith on and Aunt Bea won a trip to Mexico. I'd love to be in Mexico right now enjoying the warm weather. (did she spell her name Bee?)
Bob and I do have a trip planned to Colorado in April. He's going on business, I'm going to visit Maryanna and Pat.
I took tomorrow off. I needed a mental health day. Work has been very high stress lately. I think I will do some housework, but I will also get some reading done.
Next week I am going to the V-22 hangar to watch News Channel 4 tape a commercial for NAVAIR's job fair that is coming up in March. I'm looking forward to that--it sounds like fun.
I think that's it for this journel entry--I'm tired.
